His eyes are bright, his tail is in constant motion, and he prefers to lean up against you. 

That’s because Bubba, a less than 1-year-old, tan-colored pit bull-mix puppy, weighs only 14 pounds and still hasn’t built up enough strength to walk steady on his feet since he was found Monday in Warren lying in his own feces and urine.

Police said the dog was found in a back room, and no food or water was available. Police went to the house because the owner was being evicted. 

“I would say this one of the worst in all my times down here. To leave a dog like that, it is incredible,” said Warren Animal Control Officer John Onatz, who has been working for nearly 28 years.

Onatz  filed a charge of animal cruelty against the owner, Tyree Kyle, who is set to appear in Warren Municipal Court on Friday. Those who are now helping care for Bubba are hoping the public will show up at the hearing.

“We want outrage. We don’t see this type [of abuse] as often, but we want outrage,” said Marty Conklin. 

Jennifer Bird, who houses a rescue operation near Pittsburgh, is taking care of Bubba now. She said he won’t drink on his own yet and needs to get fluids injected a few times a day. 

“He follows me around. He is like my little shadow. Pit bulls are very resilient. They love their owners no matter what, and as much as he has been through, he is definetly a lover,” Bird said. 

He is eating and those taking care of him are hoping he will make a full recovery and eventually find a good home.
