Two dogs (and one cat) found in Philly trash!

Yesterday afternoon, the Pennsylvania SPCA (PSPCA) released a statement about two emaciated pit bulls that had been found under four feet of trash in Philadelphia.

Today, we have new information from the PSPCA.

When Humane Law Enforcement (HLE) officials arrived at a backyard on the 2600 block of N. 23rd Street in the Strawberry Mansion section of Philly, they discovered an emaciated dog buried in a backyard filled with trash, and a search warrant was obtained to remove the dog.

While rescuing this dog, officials heard whimpering. Under the debris was another emaciated dog, poking its head out from underneath the trash.

George Bengal, director of humane law enforcement, told the press that the dog was buried alive under a mountain of trash. An emaciated cat was also found inside the house. All of the animals were taken to the PSPCA hospital and are currently receiving treatment.

Two men living at the property, Eric Smallwood, Sr. (34) and his son, Eric, Jr. (19), were cited for animal cruelty and at least three others will also be cited. Fleas, parasites, and drugs were also found inside the home, which neighbors have dubbed “the dirty house.”“Both dogs (and the cat, Birdie!) are very, very sweet,” said Wendy Marano, public relations and media specialist for the PSPCA. “We expect within a couple of weeks, all will be well enough for them to have new lives in loving homes.” Be sure to check out the news video that shows more footage of the deplorable conditions in which the animals were found.
